Letter to PM re Declaring NZ GE/GM Free

We ask that you send a letter or email to the Prime Minister plus anyone else you may choose to include, asking that the moratorium on release of GMO's be restored and that a policy be declared for New Zealand to be GE/GM free in food and environment.

Dear Prime Minister,

New Zealand's economy relies on living up to our clean green reputation as producers of safe natural food.

Genetic Engineering outside the lab threatens our future, and carries proven risks to people and the environment that cannot be insured against.

You must protect New Zealand by preventing contamination that will result from the release of GMO's.

Ten years of experience with GE crops overseas shows serious problems caused by Genetic Engineering/Genetic Modification GE/GM on the environment, soil, animals and humans. The problems get carried up the chain of life.GE is based on out-dated understanding of natural systems.

Overseas they now have polluted water tables, sterile poisoned soil, increased use of toxic sprays, super-resistant weeds, sick animals and humans, and creeping contamination of the food chain.

New Zealand's genetic engineering experiments have delivered no benefits and bring serious risks, including unethical use of animals and deformities from cloning.

Today all New Zealand fruit, vegetables, seafood, top-quality meat and dairy are GMO-free. Let's protect our clean green reputation and keep it that way !

It would be a huge achievement if New Zealand could be one of the countries refusing to allow Genetic Engineering/Genetic Modification on crops and animals and that New Zealand be declared GE/GM FREE; just as NZ became Nuclear FREE.

Please have the courage (despite USA pressures) to restore the moratorium on release of GMOs.

Please declare a national policy to keep our food and environment GE/GM FREE.

Establish a haven in this beautiful country that will serve our people and economy long into the future.

Some Other Points you can make in support of keeping New Zealand's agriculture and environment GM-free!

 Stop the release of GE-grass to feed dairy cows. There are better ways for New Zealand to reduce methane emissions using mixed forage and sustainable farming

 Stop cloning of cows used in GE experiments which has caused cruel deformities in calves and unacceptable animal suffering.

Stop the release of GE Pine trees and other GMO crops in New Zealand. GMOs have failed overseas resulting in lower yields, use of more toxic chemical sprays, and the creation of super-weeds

Stop exposing the public to the risks of GM foods. Independent scientist warn GE foods are not proven safe. Doctors recently found pesticides from GE crops have transferred into the blood of pregnant women and their fetuses. Animal feeding tests prove some GE foods can cause organ damage and reduced fertility. Epigenetics show diet has major long-term health effects, even across generations.

Stop the lie that GMO foods are necessary to feed the world. International studies show climate-smart agri-ecological farming can double food production in ten years. Food security can be achieved without GMOs, Terminator genes, or creation of debt to agrochemical companies that in India has already resulted in suicide for hundreds of thousands of farmers.
